This year the theme for the LDS church youth is Doctrine and Covenants 4:2. For New Beginnings we wanted to use the theme but have our own special twist on it. We decided to go with the theme “Embark on your Journey… an Adventure Awaits”
I used this image of a Girl on a bicycle silhouette to represent leaving on a journey. I used the ship and anchor theme for our last YW in Excellence.
Let’s Embark on our Journey!
I started with the invitations. They turned out adorable. I made them look like boarding passes.
Each girl received a boarding pass in an envelope. Here is a photo of them and how we delivered them. You can download the basic boarding pass template here and add your own info with photo shop or Pic Monkey. I put 3 to a page and had them printed at a local printer on glossy cardstock. You can print the travel envelope below. I used colored card stock.
For the program we had a few girls talk about the things we should pack on our journey. Each girl had a value and an item she would take.
Here is our list of items. The girls said there line and then added their items to the bag. We included items that would help them to grow on there journey, whatever they chose for the year. You can print it from my google drive. Values bag items.
We ended the evening with me speaking about Choosing a journey. Whether you are embarking on increasing your testimony, doing service, finding out who you are or working toward family history of a mission, you can find joy in your Journey.
For after the program, we had a little Bon Voyage party. We served a large cake and ice cream. I had my local Sam’s club put the image of the girl on the bicycle on the cake.
And we had travel items and balloons placed on the tables as decorations.
Each girl was also able to pick up her travel bag and luggage tag before she left.
My girls love there bags! Most of them use them to bring them to church packed with everything to help them on there journey. I love see in them grow in the gospel. It is so satisfying!
