I’m so excited to be sharing a fun faux leather project with you today. I am thrilled that The Ribbon Retreat has started to stock faux leather. They have great color choices even some metallics. They are such a great way to add a little something extra to your projects. I have made a few fun ones for you to make!
Here are a few supplies I like to use:
- Faux Leather
- DMC Floss
- E-6000 or Fabri-tac glue
- Elastic
- scissors-nice sharp ones
- embellishments- pearls, crystals
- opt: cutting tools- cricuit, cutting press, silhouette
(So don’t mind the hair. When a 12 year old takes the photos he doesn’t pay attention to the hair just the product for the photo.)
First up a faux leather pony tail cover:
Cut by hand an oval, about 3 inches long. Using a punch, place a hole on each end. Add any embellishments to the oval. I used flowers on mine and embellished with metal grommets. I purchased a plastic hair chopstick from a local beauty shop or you could use a real chopstick
A simple leather floral headband or hair clip:
Cut flowers or hearts from faux leather. Stitch around the edges with DMC floss color of choice. Measure your headband elastic. Cut the ends and stitch them together. Using glue( I like E-6000 or fabric-tac), stick flowers to elastic headband. I took a piece of faux leather and glued it to the back of the headband for support. Let dry and wear.
Jazz up a trucker hat: Cut your flowers or shapes and stitch around the edges. Using the trucker hat pattern from my post and cover your trucker hat. Stitch around the edges with colorful floss. Add your flowers or shapes. I wiall be adding the trucker hat tutorial soon.
Flower pony O’s:
2 flowers from the faux leather. Cut 2 slits in the center. Thread elastic through slits and stitch ends together.
Using DMC floss stitch around the edges of the flower and through the center to cover the elastic. Your pony O’s are ready to go.
Faux Leather is so easy to work with. It cuts easily with scissors or use a cutting tool for precise shapes. Either way you can create a slew of fun and easy projects with it like earrings, key chains, book covers or hair accessories.
